The annual meeting with the officers of IEEE Iran Section Student Branches and the counselors
On 26 October 2011, IEEE Iran Section Board of directors held the annual meeting with the officers of IEEE Iran Section Student Branches and the counselors of Iran universities at Research institute for ICT. Dr.H.Soltanian Zadeh, the chair of IEEE Iran Section welcomed the guests and provided a brief report on the 2011 IEEE world Congress of San Francisco. Dr Nobakhti, the IEEE Iran Section secretor then gave a talk on issues mentioned in the 96th Region 8 Meeting of London. The meeting was continued with head of other IEEE Iran Section committees talk and discussions on the committees activities and programs. Finally, Ms.Azizi, IEEE Iran Section webmaster, presented the features of new IEEE Iran Section website. In the evening, Dr. Nobakhti, Dr. Ozgoli, head of membership development and the officers of IEEE Iran Section Student Branches had a friendly discussion on promoting IEEE student activities in Iran.

IEEE Iran Section bides farewell to Prof. Mohammad Hakkak
Prof. Mohammad Hakkak, a distinguished full professor of Tarbiat Modares University and an officer of educational activities in the Iran Section of IEEE passed away on July 12, 2011 after a battle with cancer.
e was a senior member of IEEE, a member of elections committee, and an officer of educational activities in the IEEE Iran section since 2008. Over the past 3 years, he made significant contributions to the development and activities of IEEE Iran Section.
Prof. Hakkak was a project leader and a head of Transmission Department at the Iran Telecommunications Research Center (ITRC) for several years. In his 48 years of teaching and research activities, he directed more than 15 research projects and supervised 10 PhD dissertations and 55 MS theses. He published 5 books, 55 journal papers, and 115 conference papers on radiowave propagation, micorwave antennas, satellite communications and mobile communications. We never forget his kind smile and helpful demeanor in the IEEE Iran Section. -
The 2011 annual meeting of the IEEE Iran Section
was held at Amir-Kabir University of Technology, Tehran, on May 18, 2011, along the 19th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE’11). The program started with a report by the President of the IEEE Iran Section, Professor Hamid Soltanian-zadeh, on the Section’s activities over the past year (2010-2011). Professor Ali Khaki-Sedigh, the Section’s Chair of Awards and Recognition Committee, then gave a short talk on Research Ethics, followed by a brief talk by Dr. Mahdi Akhavan, Vice Minister for Technology and International Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Second part of the annual meeting was the awards ceremony. Professor Parviz Jabehdar-Maralani of the University of Tehran was awarded the 2011 IEEE Iran Section Teaching Award for his 30+ years of pioneering and fundamental role in the country’s academic curriculum development, teaching, and textbook authorship in Electrical Engineering. Professor Jawad Salehi of Sharif University of Technology, IEEE Fellow, received the 2011 IEEE Iran Section Research Award for his quality research leadership and numerous high-impact publications in prestigious IEEE journals and conferences. Dr Keivan Navaie of Tarbiat-Modares University, IEEE Senior Member, was the recipient of the 2011 IEEE Iran Section Young Investigator Award for his fruitful career over the past five years. The 2011 IEEE Iran Section Best Thesis Awards ¬¬were presented to Ms. Nafiseh Saberi, an M.S.E.E. graduate from Tarbiat-Modares University, and to Dr. Farrokh Amini-far, a Ph.D. graduate from Sharif University of Technology. Finally, Isfahan University of Technology Student Branch was recognized as the 2010-2011 Outstanding Iranian Student Branch.. -

Professor Jawad Salehi from Sharif University of Technology and a previous chair of the IEEE Iran Section has been honored as an IEEE Fellow in 2010. We are proud of his achievement and warmly congratulate his elevation to the fellowship level.
